Management Area

The management academic area within the Costello College of Business at George Mason University is comprised of highly trained faculty with expertise in many different business topics.

The diversity of topics and research within the management area means there is a vast amount of knowledge and expertise among the faculty.

Broad areas of expertise are:

Entrepreneurship: Management area faculty offer their research and teaching expertise in traditional topics of entrepreneurship and starting a business in addition to the crucial topic of social entrepreneurship. Faculty work with the Costello College of Business Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship on impactful research and developing useful, relevant courses.

Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management: Faculty who specialize in these areas are involved in a variety of different research topics such as individual cognition, creativity, decision making and identity, team dynamics, conflict and negotiations, and broad topics like leadership, change management, and global/cultural issues. Because of the multi-faceted nature of the field, the management area offers a variety of specialized topic courses in addition to the required management courses and more advanced organizational behavior courses.

Strategic Management: Our strategy faculty bring expertise at the level of the firm, strategic analysis, and global business issues. They conduct research and teach courses on topics of strategic management, international strategy, and competitive strategy; strategy faculty also offer the Capstone course that all undergraduate business students take at the end of their program.

Students who choose to focus their studies on management will have a lot of options, but the underlying principles involve the importance of critical thinking and understanding how people behave in organizational systems. Classes offered by the management area are designed to provide important analytical frameworks and skills to help students achieve their ambitions and to be successful in managing people and relationships throughout their careers.
